Atheists have killed millions!

23 Mar

One of the most often used attacks against Atheists is to try and associate them with the French revolution and Communism. The “argument” goes something like this:

“The French revolution and Communism were run by Atheists and they killed millions of people! Therefore Atheism is evil and morally bankrupt.”

This claim is ridiculous on so many levels, yet this does not stop people from hurling it at Atheists. So, where many leaders of the French revolution Atheists? Yes. Were some leaders of communism Atheist? Yes. So that’s checkmate for the Atheists right? No.

There is a very important point that people repeatable fail to recognize: Killing is one thing, killing in the name of something else is another.

This is very important because although the French revolution and communism killed a lot of people, they did not do it in the name of Atheism. Religious fanatics on the other hand have been killing people for thousands of years in the name of their religion, because of their religion.

This is not to say that the killing done by the French revolution and communism should be dismissed, but that you’re comparing apples to oranges. People who killed other people and happened to be Atheists vs people who killed other people because of their religion. In fact, this is an extremely slippery slope for religious people to go down. If they want to claim that Atheism is bad because some people who happened to be Atheists committed crimes, then they are completely damning themselves for this simple reason:

There has always been more religious people than Atheists. Because of Atheism’s smaller population, inevitably more people have been killed throughout history by those who happened to be religious. This includes all murders done by religious people for religious AND non-religious motives. Comparatively murders committed by Atheists are fewer in number, and murders done by Atheists for religious reasons fewer still.

“Well, ok, so there are more theists than Atheists, I bet proportionally the numbers are still equal.” Wrong. When you average out the data to see the ratio of murders done by Atheists per population of Atheists to murders done by theists per population of theists, Atheists commit fewer crimes than theists.

Communism did kill “in the name of” secularism. You should read some of the writings of Malcolm Muggeridge, a British Journalist for the BBC among many others, author of “the Earnist Athiest”, “Winter in Moscow”, “The End of Christiandom”, and personal friends of H. G. Wells and huxley is a once-ardent-athiest-skeptic-turned-Jesus-follower late in life.

Anyways growing up a marxist propagandist, son of a marxist Labour councilor has a different perspective that you do about this topic.

Throughout history Christians has been killed for their “troublesome superstition” that God came to earth as a peasant Gallalian and that their is a resurrection and judgment of the dead. In Russia as well as China faith was considered a plague needing to be stamped out. churches were either destroyed or turned into propaganda mills depending on the constitution of its congregation. So were people killed in the name of athiesm? yes.

Now take Hitler, he was not a christian but used its title to persuade the masses, he was a mystical atheist, a rare enigma. He founded the Christian social party, again, in name only to steal gullible minds. He would (like many snakes do) use christian like lingo sans Christ. “We do not want any other god than Germany itself. It is essential to have fanatical faith and hope and love in and for Germany.” The antiChrist will look very much like a Christian.

In light of Nazi Germany, crusades, etc. it is essential to weigh belief by examining the LOGICAL OUTWORKINGS of their professed faith. Christ said, My kingdom doesn’t belong to this world. If my kingdom belonged to this world, my followers would fight”, He also said, “love your neighbor””pray for your enimys” sound like hitlar? No. sound like pope Innocent the third? No. they were not following the logical outworking of Christ so they are both in place of Christ -antichrist. The bible also says notable here is true religion: “to care for the widow, the orphan, and the alien.” in other words, all other religion is vain!

Religion is antithetical to a relationship with God. The God of the bible requires “mercy not sacrifice.” you might have questions for me about the old testament which does not contradict this, if so write me. Only God can really sacrifice because only he doesn’t have to “borrow” materials. Anything we would sacrifice is already his.

As for your prison bit. Is it any wonder you see so many bad Christians? Historically the best ones have very short lives, and you do not see a lot of them that are alive because they are in some obscure part of the world working with the destitute.
Nevertheless, You are right. Professing Christians are jacked up, that is not because they are “Christians” tho’. It is because they are humans. Jesus says: “I am the good doctor. I came for the sick, not the well.” Not that here are only come of us sick and others well but instead that he came because we are ALL sick.
    ~May God bless you.

The rate of atheism amongst the prison population is MUCH lower than it is amongst society in America. MUCH lower (we are talking 0.26% atheist in prisons and over 10% atheists in society)

One could argue that according to this base analysis, the number of actual atheists in American society is quite small. 10% of American society is atheist? Where would that statistic possibly originate? It would be far more logical to look at the stats themselves and determine from the base group as analyzed that the atheist base in society is more likely approximately 0.26%. Stats can be interpreted in many, many ways.

ThIs is a very weak attempt at trying to separate atheism from the behaviors that resulted from the atheist worldview. Very weak.
